Sales Trends example

Does anyone have a good example of mapping sales trends or performance by geography. I am trying to evaluate Mappoint and would like to see if it can be achieved and if so, what is needed to do so.

Thanks

Re: Sales Trends example

Why not use your own data?

Use the "Data Import Wizard" in MapPoint. If your data is a "snapshot" for a specific time, then use the shaded area map. Choose a levelthat is suitable for your data - eg. State or County.

If you have data that is geographic and also changing over time, then you use use one of the bar graph options - this will draw a bar graph for each area (I find these difficult to read quickly). If your data is a %age of sales, then you could use the pie chart option. There are also sized pie charts if you want total volume at the same time.

Ther is a book that has a good walkthrough of what can be done - "MapPoint for Dummies". Yes I know, one of those "Dummies" titles. Also it is a bit old (talks about MapPoint 2002), but data plotting has barely changed over the last 6 years. MapPoint 2009 has a new look so some of the menu options are in different places or the buttons have different icons (MapPoint 2006 has the same look as 2002). Anyway it is a good walk through of what can be done and being an older book, you can ususally get it pretty cheap!

This site (mp2kmag.com) also has various articles, so I would try searching mapforums.com and mp2kmag.com for some examples.

My own site has some examples on the following page, although they aren't sales examples (they're things like choosing the location for a new golf course; researching airline delays; and a notorious election result):

Re: Sales Trends example

I don't have an example to display but I have used it to display net sales year over year by province/state for key product lines. With mappoint you can use graphs to quickly show the data trend instead of circle radius or other points.

I'm sure you can scale it down to territories. With the proper demographics you can even plot sales penetration by target market.
