Greetings all,

This has probably been asked and answered a dozen time, but I can not find the answer.....

Using Mappoint 2009 and my GPS I can show my position and navigate without issue, however, here is what I need to do....

We go on motorycle trips and take many side roads. Often I forget where these roads are and would like to return to them at a later date. I would like to be able to "turn the GPS on" and "record" the trip for "playback" later so I could create an actual route and add pushpins, etc. and save it as I would all of my other manual routes.

The computer is in my tour pack and the gps sits on the fender - works great, but.....

Is this possible?

Franson GpsGate will do what you want. I use it with my software and have copy of the MapPoint application, my own application using the MP com and the NMEA being recorded into a disk file... all using the same GPS feed that is being split by GpsGate. The recording facility is built-in to the GpsGate software. The recorded NMEA can be replayed via GpsGate into MapPoint to re-run your trip.

Thanks for the info... now for the million dollar question... Will you be able to save the playback as a route file in MapPoint or just use MP as a view for the log file? I am looking to be able to save the route as I would like to be able to make some modifications to it and add push pins at various locations.

Playing back the recorded is the same as doing an actual drive using the GPS pane. This gives you the mapped tracks that you can use as normal... create a pushpin anywhere on the track and add to route. Then save or save as like normal to preserve. This can be repeated as much as required, or combined with other tracks.

If you are looking at saving points to a non-MP database and then reloading just the points, that would be an outside application or tool. There are various options on this forum for saving to Excel, for example. Beyond that would be custom software, but that would probably be overkill unless you were doing it for a business.
