What is the best way to direct map the items that do not have an appropriate street address. Just give them all a fake known address and distribute them from their to their approppriate place on the map?

No... not for MapPoint. The maps are integral to the product version. You cannot update the maps outside of just buying the update.

Yes, or figure out the lat/lon and then import them using the lat/lon...
