show me Sales of each of the 4 vendors based on postal code

    Hi,
I am trying to map data (Import from Excel) Sales, by postal code, by vendor (4 vendors). Essentially what I would like for MapPoint to do is show me Sales of each of the 4 vendors based on postal code. So if I scroll over to a circle, or pin point, if letís say that particular postal code has 2 of the 4 vendors, I want to see the sales number for vendor 1 and vendor 2.

    Any help is welcome

I would recommend a pie chart -- sized pie charts (and sized circles) are a little tricky to make work good, but even with a pie chart (fixed size) you could hover over a pie chart and see the data.

Alternatively, you could try a chart.

Do you want to post some sample data? Then I could try to make one or two variations for you with steps to reproduce.

Yes a sized pie chart would work well if you want to plot the four values for identical points.

(in my email reply, I thought you were trying to plot four sets of points).

Hi, thank you for your responses; here is my sample data.
Represents random sales data and includes for testing purposes 2 vendors. I thought of maybe inserting a column with City; might be easier to map the data by region ie. all postal codes that fall under city of Toronto, Montreal, etc... rather than maping by individual postal code ..what do you think?

Can you post in Excel? You might need to zip first.

Also, to do a pie chart, you will need all the data for a zip code on a single row, so it would be like

postal code, vendor 1 sales, vendor 2 sales, etc.

Re: show me Sales of each of the 4 vendors based on postal code

Hi, thank you for your responses. I will need to edit my original report I am working from.
Can MapPoint map data by City? Running my report for all 4 vendors by Postal Code produced enormous amounts of data, over 12,000 records. Also, MapPoint was not working for me, the map was too congested, and I think by Postal Code is too detailed. So this is how I would set up my columns:
    City Vendor1 Sales Vendor2 Sales Vendor3 Sales Vendor4 Sales

If not, is there a better way of doing this?

    Would this work?
I'll post a sample spreadsheet with my data once I'm done.

    Thank you!

That will work! Also post a screenshot of your resulting map or a PTM file.

In excell, under the field City; what format should I have in the cell?
    Ex.
    Toronto, Ontario, Canada
    Or
    Toronto, Ontario
    Or
    Toronto
..I think when you have only the City name, MapPoint will not know which city if there are duplicates in different provinces, to pull.

Yes, actually best to have three separate fields and specify them all during the import.

Do you mean 3 seperate columns, once for City, province, country? And what exactly do you mean to specify them during the import?

Here is a screen shot of my map; see attachement.
Thank you for all of your help ...
