Simple Issues

It seems tha MapPoint is made more for directions, etc. versus data mapping. I'm trying to use it to track customer installations, sales data, etc.

One simple issue I'm having trouble with is just getting labels on the pushpins. I'm printing out on a large printer, so space is no problem. I just want to select the fields that I want printed by the pushpins. Does anyone know how to do that?

Re: Simple Issues

If you right click on the pushpin set name in the legend, you can then use 'properties' to define what you want in your information labels. Then use the pushpin tool to open all the boxes. That's how I'd do it.

Re: Simple Issues

David,

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean go to every pushpin and reveal the text? Do you know if there is a way to do all at once?

Re: Simple Issues

The "Pushpin Tool" add-in was originally designed to do this (more features were added later) easily for end-users. $75

Otherwise it is not so much programming to do it via Excel VBA or anything else that can automate MapPoint.

Re: Simple Issues

I've always used the pushpin tool, which is available in MapPoint 2006 on the Tools menu. In previous versions it isn't built into the package so I originally bought the software through Support-PC Home of Pushpin Tool. ($75). Basically this allows you to change the state of your pushpins label on selected datasets or all the pushpins on your map at one fell swoop. Otherwise you'll have to do a lot of right clicking or alternatively write your own code.

Hope that helps.

Re: Simple Issues

David,

Thanks for the new note. I don't have a "pushpin" option on the Tools menu. You do?

Re: Simple Issues

You have to buy to tool as he mentioned... once it is installed and registered (paid $75) then you can use it.

Re: Simple Issues

I thought the pushpin tool wasn't required with 2006. In fact, I went to their website and it looks like it's only available for 2002/2004.

Re: Simple Issues

Yes, sorry my mistake. As Eric Frost says you have to buy the tool, even for MapPoint 2006. Then you get it on the Tools menu.
