Can I use this to limit the map to a single county? It really doesn't have to line up with county boundaries, what I have in mind is something like a rectangular map area that contains a county and allows overlap into adjoining counties.

The Single State Mapper itself does not help with this, but you can use the same technique. Do you have a particular county in mind? Let me know and I will post a sample ptm file with the adjoining areas covered up.

Thank you for the information.
I'm concerned with Allegheny County in PA (Pittsburgh area)
My main goal is an application for our emergency communications group and it is Allegheny County only. I don't want the users to have to zoom in from North America when we're only working in Allegheny County.
This is pretty rough but it shows some of what you can do.
See attached screenshot and zipped ptm file.
For this I think you want to replace the default template in the directory at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft MapPoint 2006\Templates
Make a backup of the file that's in there ( New North American Map.ptt ) and replace it with your own ptm that you want people to start with.
Hope this helps!
