Is there a bridge that will get the location of a GPS phone and update mappoint.

I have 50 drivers. I'm looking for a low cost solution.

Thanks

There is a service from a Nextel partner called FutureRoads.com. For about $10/month per Nextel unit, you can get AVL on Mappoint. Nextel charges about $15/month for the data service, so your total will be about $25/month per vehicle. You may be able to get better rates with the higher number of vehicles, we are looking into this service for only about 3 or 4 vehicles to start.

If your GPS phone can send email with location (Lat-Lon), you can try GPS Track from Mobile GPS Online. More info at http://www.mobilegpsonline.com/products_2.htm

You can also get GPS navigation (just like expensive in-car solutions) from www.telenav.net.

Geomicro has a Geolocator app you can download from their web site. It is very basic. When I told them I needed more functionality, they offered the source code. http://www.geomicro.com/GLDownloads/default.asp

I hope I'm wrong but I believe Mappoint's EULA (for MP2004) precludes being able to use it for real or near realtime AVL mapping solutions. I believe you can still use MP2002 without any problems

Don't worry, no one enforces the EULA. Cheak out www.actsoft.com/products/Tracker.html and http://www.cheetahtracks.com

If you go to either of those web sites, they say you need a copy of MapPoint 2004 and a Nextel phone.

Microsoft obviously doesn't care. They list Cheetah as a member of the MapPoint Alliance Program and promote them as MapPoint Solution Providers.

Have a look at www.it2me.com. Complete tracking solution for Nextel. I was suprised by the price. $10/mth is very reasonabe. Other solutions I have seen were in the $25-40 range.

Portable Internet is an exceptionally easy and powerful GPS tracking and wireless workflow solution. They start at just $10/mo/user (plus Nextel fees of $10/mo/phone) for a total of less than $1/day/user. Wireless workflow allows you to create your own forms, work orders, and collect data from drivers or technicians via the phone keypad or barcodes. You can export data to Mappoint, but it and other PC software and large map data is not required. PC-bsed programs that use Mappoint must be installed at least yearly, updated when there is a new version, fixed.

I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING MANY GPS COMPANIES THAT CAN OFFER MY COMPANY JUST ABOUT ANYTHING I NEED TO LOCATE MY STAFF, DRIVERS AND TEENAGERS! I HAVE FOUND A GPS SYSTEM CALLED ONE STAR IN KENTUCKY THAT HAVE A SOFTWARE/GPS PROGRAM THAT CAN BE USED ON NEXTEL OR THEY HAVE TRACKING DEVICES NOT RELATED TO PHONES. THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS COMPANY IS THEY ARE HALF THE PRICE AS SOME OF THE OTHER PROVIDERS IN THE MARKET. IF INTERESTED YOU NEED TO EMAIL THEM FOR MORE INFORMATION. WWW.ONESTARTRACKING@AOL.COM OR CALL THEIR CORPORATE VP 502-817-1781. THEY OFFER DISCOUNTS FOR MANY CORPORATE COMPANIES ANDCAN PROVIDE YOU WITH CELLULAR SERVICE NATIONALLY AS WELL!

I also prefer Telenav. Nobody can beat Telenav's free real-time map updates and their extensive database of POI (11+ mill).

Accutracking ... mentioned in an earlier reply ... will provide an API for the Motorola iDen phones that will allow you to easily program all functions to track directly on MapPoint on your desktop ... can be used to overlay your route maps or location maps ... cost is only about $3 per month for the service ...

If anyone is interested on how to add addresses and/or look up businesses on the web and sync them to their navigator’s “favorites”, here is the link (http://signin.telenav.com/tnsso/sso/home.do?callback=http%3A%2F%2Fmy.telenav.com%2Fmyt n%2FMyAddressPages.do%3Fact%3DmyaddressList): http://my.telenav.com (http://my.telenav.com/)
