I am brand new to MapPoint. I'm having difficulties figuring out the basics - Using VB6, how do I plot a Lat/Long using a pushpin (or other graphic) onto the map? Thanks to anyone who is willing to answer this basic question.

This is not VB6 specifically, but the outlines and examples at Working With Excel and MapPoint - MP2K Magazine (http://www.mp2kmag.com/excel) should get you going with MapPoint and VBA - which is very similar to VB6 - the exact same syntax and everything.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks Eric.
I'm familiar with Excel VBA and tried to run the sample code from your article in both VB6 and Excel VBA.
I'm using the 2009 trial version and get runtime error 429 (and it's equivalent in VBA). From what I've been able to learn from the internet, it sounds like the ActiveX isn't properly registered. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MapPoint with no luck. I will reattempt this effort on another PC but if you have any suggestions, I welcome them and appreciate any advice you offer.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still scratching my head as to why I can't get MapPoint and VB6/VBA to work together on the one computer (XP Home) but the other 2 (XP Pro & Vista) do work with both VBA and VB6. Any theories/suggestions/solutions?
Thanks Much.

Hmm sorry I do not have an idea.

Does MapPoint itself work fine on the XP Home box when you launch it from the Start menu?

It seems to work just fine when launching it from the Start menu...

I've tried it on yet another XP Home machine and that one also works. Whatever the problem seems to be an issue with just the one machine (a netbook). All of the desktop boxes work just fine. The effort with the netbook will go on the back burner for now. Thanks for your assistance.

I found that if I run MapPoint as an administrator, everything works... Same with VB.Net 2008. Both VB.Net and MapPoint need to be run from an adminstrator account, or with Windows 7 right click on the program icon and 'run as administrator'.
