Need route that has even and odd street addresses separated

New user of 2002 trial version.

Trying to imitate a paper route or post office route.

Default route and optimized route intermixes even and odd addresses for same street plus it messes up at puts adjoining addresses (i.e. 202, 204, 206) many stops apart. I sorted in excel and imported but still gets messed up.

Is there a way to create a route that will have even numbered addresses followed by odd numbered addresses for the same street instead of intermixed?

I'd like to know if anyone succeeded in getting MapPoint to recognize sides of the street. I've reconciled the idea that MapPoint is a cost effective product without such refinements. In my routing, the path MapPoint chooses often overlaps and doubles back past stops it skips for no apparant reason. Changing to shortest instead of quickest path helps but not perfect. Grin and work with it or go for MapInfo at about $8 G's for the suite.
