Hello all..... I just ordered MapPoint 2010 after researching several mapping software programs. I'm a desk top used for sure with moderate IT skills.

I hope the software will allow me profile a particular industry by plotting their physical locations in the U.S, adding pop-up windows of information for each push pin when that pin is moused over or clicked on, and be able to select and de-select which companies are displayed at any given time on the map during a meeting.

If anyone can confirm prior to my software arriving, I would be very grateful. It looks like a cool-tool to visually display a lot of information currently in Excel spreadsheets onto a single map.

And if any users are out there who might be interested in earning extra money helping me profile industry information in a map, I'd love to hear from you.

Yes, I think MP 2010 looks spot-on for your requirements, perhaps with the exception of getting much control from pushpin mouse-over. However clicking on a pushpin will show an information panel, the contents of which you can specify.

MP2010 for the first time allows toggling between pushpin sets so to select and de-select groups of companies you'll need to set them up as different pushpin sets I expect.

I've been using MP for several years now and I like the package a lot - so much so that I try to get my clients to buy it. There's a lot of GIS-type functionality that's missing (eg adding to the base map data) but as a business mapping tool for MS Office users it works very very well.

Thank you for your insights David. I'm anxious to give this product a try, anmd excited about having a tool that consolidates page after page of information in MS Excel spreadsheets to a single document. It sounds like the 2010 package has finally offered that finctionality with the push pin on and off switch.

I hope to chat with you again on future threads as I become more experienced.
