View Full Version : Difference between MapPoint 2006 and 2009 with C#

Hi to everyone!

I have a problem, I don't understand a thing:
I created an application, following the instrucions on "Programming MapPoint in NET" by Chandu Thota adding a reference an ActiveX Control....

Section 2.3. Programming the MapPoint ActiveX Control 2.3. Programming the MapPoint ActiveX Control
The programming models of the MapPoint 2004 APIs and MapPoint 2004 ActiveX Control are exactly the same, except that you use the AxMappointControl class instead of creating an ApplicationClass object to access the active map instance.
2.3.1. Adding MapPoint 2004 ActiveX Control

The first step towards developing with MapPoint 2004 ActiveX control starts with configuring your development environment. You need to add the ActiveX Control to your Visual Studio .NET toolbox to enable the "Drag-and-Drop" development tool.

Note that if you have MapPoint 2004 APIs already added to your project, you need to remove that reference before you add ActiveX Control; adding ActiveX Control automatically adds the MapPoint 2004 API reference to your project.
That's it! Now you are ready to develop applications using the MapPoint 2004 object model.
2.3.2. Initializing the MapPoint 2004 ActiveX Control

When you drag-and-drop the MapPoint control onto your Windows form, the reference to the MapPoint interoperable assembly is automatically added to your project, along with the control. The drag-and-drop operation also creates and adds an instance of MapPoint control to your code file:
private AxMapPoint.AxMappointControl axMappointControl1;------

Now, I am trying to do the same thing with MapPoint 2009 but it doesn't work and I 'm becoming crazy.

Please, I am a student, non a Pro C# user, if some one can help me...
(I'm using Visual Studio 2009 )

Thank you!

Most exactly, what are you unable to do. Is it :
- Add the activeX reference ?
- Add the ocx object on the form ?
- Open or create a new map on the control ?

:dots: we need more detail on your problem to be more useful

With MapPoin 2006 was very easy add an ActiveX Control to a project...
-> Toolbox -> Add/Remove Items -> .COM -> select "Microsoft MapPoint Control 11.0"... then I could add into my form this control (axMappointControl1)

...Now, with MapPoint 2009, into .COM list I don't find any control like: "Microsoft MapPoint Control 16.0"...and adding..the file "MappointControl.ocx" manually it doesn't work anyway (I use EU version of MapPoint).

Is it helpful?

Thanks to eveyone!

Sorry for my late respond but my problem was that i downloaded a non original mappoint so i could build my application untill my copy would arrive, i dropped this idea and will wait for my original copy which ill get from work soon.
I didnt test it with the USA version.

So best you could try is to email MS or download the USA version and use the control.

Good luck with it!
