Need help for extracting Populated Places !

In Mappoint in the Legend user can see Populated Places. (major city, city, other places)
IS TEHRE ANY WAY TO EXTRACT THOSE POPULATED PLACES ? (for a given area, within a lat/long range, for a given zip/postal code..DOESN'T REALLY MATTER, I really tryied out anything and seems like is imposible to extract that information)
