I'm doing a small contract for a company that uses MapPoint 2006, and they have been creating map points manually. I showed them how they could read a list of addresses from an Excel spreadsheet, but here's the problem: They want all their pushpins numbered successively, but when I import the list, all the pushpins are the same. How could this be done automatically?

It would probably require a custom program which read each pin's data and then added a pin with its own symbol. Note that this would limit what data you import (ie. text and name only - no numeric fields).

The alternative would be to split your data into groups of eight, and import each group as its own pushpin set. Then use the multi symbol import option. Each data point would then have its own symbol - but getting them numbered in the correct order might be tricky.

So you're saying that this simple and obvious task is out of the normal scope of MapPoint? Can the newest version (MapPoint 2010) do this?
