MapPoint Add-In performance

I have a question about performance. What would cause my CPU usage to be almost 100% when running my MapPoint Add-In(VB)? I do close all other applications when I run this program. I am connected to two databases and the application processes strings (addresses) to find their respective lat/long coordinates. Also, how can I avoid the "Switch-to" pop up that comes up when trying to run the code? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
