adding values to states on mappoint

i am new to mappoint but am trying to build a map that displays values on the states. i have a spreadsheet with states and data by state. i can load the data fine and everything, the only problem i have is trying to display the value on the map itself. is there anyway to build and print the map and have the values appear on the data map? thanks.
