Hi all. I am so just getting started. I don't even have the software yet.
I don't know if I want to go thru SpatialPoint (who has yet to reply to either of my inquiries) or MapPoint directly.
I had been using ESRI BusinessMap which was great for our needs - but it has been discontinued :sweatdrop2:
From the research I have done MapPoint 2010 appears to be seriously worth looking into.

There's a trial version you might want to download first, it is fully functional and works for 60 days.

Download details: MapPoint North America 2010 trial (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=afece5c3-b48b-417d-8dae-de9616b16d18&displaylang=en)

ESRI BusinessMap was discontinued? Too bad... was ESRI recommending which product to use to replace it?

Hi Eric
Yes, ESRI recommended Business Analyst Online (BAO); which costs close to three times as much and did not provide the user interaction that BusinessMap allowed (and I need).

I tried to keep an open mind and gave the software a trial run - it did not fit our needs.

Good to know the trial version is fully funtional, I will definately look into downloading it and testing it out.

Do you happen to know anything about SpatialPoint? MapPoint and SpatialPoint seem almost interchangeable on their website. Do you just use MapPoint straight from the source?

SpatialPoint is a private company based in the Chicago suburbs.

MapPoint is a desktop software product (like BusinessMap) from Microsoft.

SpatialPoint is one of several Microsoft Partners who specialize in Microsoft mapping products like MapPoint and Bing Maps. Have they responded to your inquiries?

No they have not responded to my inquires. Several months ago I filled out the pop up form for a Demo - no reply. Then I sent an email briefly explaining my needs and that I was interested in talking with someone, that was 10 days ago - no reply.

You would think in this economy (or any good business) would be jumping at the bit for new customers.

Maybe their web site is broken or maybe they are more focused on Bing Maps for Enterprise customers (another MS mapping technology) at this point.

Anyway, I'd be interested if you can help with developing an article comparing BusinessMap and MapPoint functionality for MP2K Magazine? I think this would be a interest to any other users such as yourself who are looking for an inexpensive BusinessMap replacement.

Sure, I would be open to that. I love working with maps and it is only a very small part of my job so where I can be involved with maps I am so there.
