Hello all. My husband delivers coffee and his employer doesn't organize his deliveries in any order. He manually must plus in addresses one at a time into his GPS AFTER he's organized the route slips by town. He would love to just be able to plug in all addresses & cities and let the GPS or his home computer put the route in order for the best use of his delivery time. Is there a software out there we could purcchase for him to do this?

If you put all the addresses in a list (text or Excel) and import that list into MapPoint, MapPoint has a function for "Optimizing" the route order. It's not perfect, but would probably be a great improvement on what you are doing now.

MapPoint costs $219 (see store section on this site) and customization to further automate things is also possible with the MapPoint programming functions.

Hope this helps!

Even Streets & Trips could do this - and fr less. Put the GPS version on a Netbook, and he could take the Netbook (complete with interactive route directions) with him.
Would be practical for a car, but not a cycle or motorbike - I don't know how much coffee is being delivered.

You could the same with MapPoint. The main advantage to using MapPoint for this kind of work that it can be customized with your own code or third party add-ins. Yes we happen to have an add-in that helps there :-) Called RouteWriter ( RouteWriter: Export Routes from Microsoft MapPoint (http://www.routewriter.com) ) it can be used to write your route waypoints (ie. stops) out to Excel without the actual directions. This would be ideal for you if you wanted a simple list of the waypoints in the best order (as determined by MapPoint) with, possibly estimated distances & times - then this could work for you.

Streets&Trips (minus the GPS receiver); MapPoint; and RouteWriter all have free trials.
