Any tricks to getting cleaner, nicer looking labels than the balloon look without doing labels one at a time? Picture a US map with 35 plants on it. All I want is the town of the plant. The map data was an Excel file with zip code for each plant.

I've tried very condensed data file and finally got balloons that only have a zip code and the town name but the balloons are too big and annoying. There is another pushpin set of our customers on the map too. To oversimplify, I want to see what customers are around our plants.

Maybe if I map the towns without the zip I'll have some luck, but need cleaner labeling for lots of other reasons too so that's not really a good answer.

Quick question - can the thickness of the radius become thinner or less bold? (I did find how to get rid of the line in the radius.)

You should be able to change the thickness by using the line thickness button on the Drawing Toolbar. There are also options for color fill, and line color.

Thank you! - lots more flexibility there than at first glance. I played with the "order" button too. A hint to future users - the regular "back" etc didn't work but the "send behind roads did"!

The first page of my website shows how I've been able to declutter pushpin labels. It would work nicely for your situation.

I see the digit key numbers in gray. Did you do those manually or something else?

It occurs during the capture (This was MapPoint 2010).
I can change these colors with an editor at will, if requested.

I'm not comprehending. What are you doing to avoid the "bubble boxes" for labels? The only way I've found to do that so far is manually on each point. By capture do you mean in the data upload?

I wrote code that toggles between 'show none,' 'show name,' and 'show information' for the dataset - a feature available to programmers through the MapPoint API.

In capturing, I went further to develop my own method for printing out the map to PDF. In doing so, the scale for the entire image and fonts are flexible, (though not entirely controllable).

Thank you -- I see the 2009 code piece now. I'll share with our programmers but wish instead MapPoint would hire you to revise some of their program. Labeling and lack of good thematic fill results convinced me to spend the money on a better program if I can get it approved. I was spoiled by Business Map Pro and Atlas GIS programs in the past, and have spoiled the users of the maps I produce. MapPoint has lots of great features and value but those two are deal breakers for me. I'll still use MapPoint at times though.

I suspect you have some work-arounds too for the fill!

Yes, sir, we certainly do. Hey, Id like Microsoft to hire us also! There's a lot more that can be done when you add COM Addins, WPF, Silverlight, SQLServer 2008, ... :51v:
