Error on importing shape file

I am testing the evaluation version of MapPoint 2002 and keep getting the following error while importing an shp file:

Error in RenderShape
Error Number: -2147024809
Error Description: The parameter is incorrect

The file only has 150 records. Any thoughts? I appreciate your assistance.

This is common, it would help to have a couple of tools handy. Do you have VB6 and some GIS software handy? Here are a couple things you can try.

1. Put some de-bugging statements in the VB6 code and figure out where it is bombing, it could be a certain object type or a record with a null value.
2. Using some GIS software, convert the file to a mif/mid format and try importing that. It may do worse, better, or the same. But at least mif/mid is all text and it would be easier to de-bug.
