View Full Version : Matching Pushpins to Custom Territories

Hello all, I am brand new to MapPoint and currently using the 60-day trial version to see if it will be a good fit for our organization. I imported a data set and divided my state into three regions, but I need to divide the pushpins into the three custom territories I created (the territories were created by zip code).

Can someone please help me figure out how I can coordinate pushpins in specific territories and export the newly matched data sets to excel? My main goal is to determine if I have too many pushpins in geographically seperated territories.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Sarah,

Welcome :flowers: and have fun with MapPoint? There are a number of tricks so feel free to use this forum as much as you need!

There is an "Export to Excel" function that works with shapes, but not Territories. To make it work, you would have to draw a rough shape outlining the territory. Open the Drawing Toolbar and use the Freeform.

Then you can right-click on the freeform and do an "Export to Excel".

Hope this helps!

Hi Eric, thank you. I have tried to use the drawing function to outline the territory, but it does not change the pushpins in the territory. Would I have to export the data, divide it into three different excel spreadsheets and then re-import the seperated data sets into MapPoint?

Great! Yes, that would work. Then they would be three separate data sets.

You are already mastering it! :donatello:

Hi Eric, when I draw the routes I am having difficulty exporting to excel. The image is grey on the toolbar at the top. Any idea how I can get each route exported seperately? Thank you, Sarah

There's no real function for exporting routes, you can print & copy directions and the map. With some custom programming you can access the "Route" object and the waypoint and directions, it's not trivial, but there are lots of examples on here. In fact this reminds me, I am going to post a new one shortly

Also, there is an inexpensive MapPoint add-in / tool RouteWriter (https://www.plimus.com/jsp/buynow.jsp?contractId=1730358&referrer=ericwfrost) that might work for you. I believe there is a free fully functional trial download.
