The United States has 58 protected areas known as national parks, which are operated by the National Park Service.***Movin’ Sue created this pushpin database primarily using http://www.nps.gov.****The National Parks POI collection includes locations of the National park, monument or recreation area* with information phone number and the campgrounds located within its borders which can accomodate RV’s.* The specific campgrounds were placed using the NPS’s own park brochures and verified using aerial imagery where possible.** What makes this pushin set great for RV travel is that ONLY those campgrounds that can accomodate a motorhome or trailer have been included.

Most NPS campgrounds do not have hookups but if there are amenities they are identified in the pushpin balloon using the following:

W = water
E30 = 30am electric
S = Sewer
Dump = Dump for sanitary stations

What about length limits?* If they are listed they’ve been added.* If not, use the privided phone number.* Generally, anything under 30′ is OK.* Many can accomodate 35′.

Reservations?* At the most popular campgrounds,* “in season” reservations are a must.* Note: Some Reservations Service Agents require a fee for making the reservation.

Whenever a difficult or unusual driving condition to a campground has been mentioned in the NPS description, a brief note is added to the location.* IT IS WISE TO CALL AHEAD IF TRAVELLING OFF SEASON OR IN REMOTE AREAS TO CHECK ON ROAD CONDITIONS!

Finally, if you use this collection and have some feedback, comments, praises, additions, corrections Sue welcomes your input to keep the database as accurate and beneficial as possible.* Send comments to MovinSue06[at][dot]yahoo.com (also mentioned in each ballooon).

How do I get this information into Streets & Trips?
The May edition of the POI megafile (http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/2595-poi-mega-file-pushpin-collections-truckers-rvers-other-travelers)contains the National Park collection as well as hundreds of other pushpin sets which are geared towards the interests and needs of travelers, road trippers, RVers and Truckers.* If you have Microsoft Streets & Trips 2011 you can download the free POI megafile from here (http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/2595-poi-mega-file-pushpin-collections-truckers-rvers-other-travelers).* If you don’t yet have S&T 2011 you can download a free 60-day trial from here (http://msstreets.com/download-free-trial/) and then use the POI megafile (http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/2595-poi-mega-file-pushpin-collections-truckers-rvers-other-travelers) for 2 months.
