View Full Version : MapPoint 2011 like MapSource?

While I've been using the free Garmin MapSource software for awhile, and it works great, MapPoint has some extra features like linking to excel that could be really handy. However, I have a couple features I can't figure out how to do in MapPoint that are critical to what I do - any help?

You can see in the image on the left, Garmin MapSource has a pane on the left showing all waypoints with corresponding info - you can select one or several items, and it highlights them on the map and displays the waypoint name. MapSource has a similar pane, but I couldn't find a pane that lists all pushpins with corresponding data attached to that pin.

2nd, when you select waypoints in Garmin MapSource, either by clicking items in the waypoint pane or creating a selection directly on the map, whatever items you select it automatically displays the waypoint names for all selected items - again, very intuitive. If you zoom in close enough to a certain level, it will automatically show all names at that point as well.

Can I get MapPoint 2011 to do these things? Or does the FREE Garmin MapSource have a leg up over Microsoft on this stuff?

Thanks!!

Since your data can be manipulated in a database, the MapPoint application wasn't designed to show it.
Instead, you can embed the MapPoint ActiveX control on a Windows or WPF form and program it the way you like it.
In my opinion: advantage Microsoft.
