The business location data in MapPoint is of interest to me. Is it possible to search for "airports" in the entire US, then extract all that information in tabular form?

Thanks you:

There is, it's not real easy, but it can be done :-)

Examples in the MapForums Downloads section ($99) --

http://www.mapforums.com/export-places-mappoint-2010-access-11182.html

http://www.mapforums.com/generate-list-points-interest-11116.html

Let me know if you have trouble figuring out how to do it and I'd be glad to help.

A head scratcher at this point. I'll read the article and see if it is within my somewhat limited skillset.

Have you run this?
Any idea how long it takes to complete?
As I understand this, there is no discretion as to which POI's are extracted; so to find x number of drive-in movie theaters I (or rather the computer) extract 1.6*10^6 POI's?

Thank you for the information.

It takes hours to run, don't know for hotels for the whole country if it will be 1-2 hours or 1-2 days.

I don't know what is 1.6*10^6

1.6 million (I think I read somewhere that was the number of POI's)

Ah yeah, I think there are 1.9M in the latest version.

It will only extract the POI's that are turned on, so for instance if you only had airport POI's turned on (in the Show/Hide places dialog), then it would only grab those few thousands or whatever airports, a fairly manageable amount.

:balloon2: We developed an Excel-Addin (http://wh-en.mappoint-tools.info/GA/src/html/NearByPlaces/Nearby_Places.htm) for this purpose. Itīs part of our IC-GeoAnalysis Suite.

Kind regards Manfred
