I will be developing an Access app that has the ability for users to create MapPoint maps on a form. Some users have MP 2009 and some have MP 2011. I have both installed on my machine, but notice in VBA that I can only reference 2011. Is it possible to have both referenced in VBA? Will it be necessary to determine which version is installed?

Based on my questions you can surely see that I know very little about VBA. I feel confident about creating the mapping functionality because I have it in another Access file. Just not sure how to handle 2 versions. I know in the past if a user did not have MapPoint installed and opened an Access file that contained MapPoint functionality, then Access would crash right away.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

On your dev machine, I would uninstall MapPoint 2011, re-install MapPoint 2009, and also do a

mappoint.exe /regserver

at the command line (from the MapPoint program files folder) for good measure.

Then just develop for MapPoint 2009, it should work with MapPoint 2011.

hope this helps, let us know how it goes.

Yep. Forgot all about being able to open files from an earlier version, but not being able to save as an earlier version. That takes care of that concern.

Which brings up another question...I just recently installed 2011 and almost always when I open a file that was created in 2009, big chunks of the data are missing. Do you know if that's normal when running multiple versions of MapPoint?

Thanks, Dale
