View Full Version : Program to Handle Importing Pushpins?

Does anyone have a program out there to handle importing fairly large datasets. I would like the ability to see and eventually screen by the degree of matching, etc. I'm not picky on the file format either.

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't have any filtering, but MapPoint's Data Import Wizard would be the first place to look. You probably know about this already, but I've found some MapPoint users don't.

Microsoft have a free MapPoint add-in for SQL Server that can do more sophisticated filtering (data has to be in SQL server of course):

This isn't exactly what you're asking for, but might help since you are asking about "degree of matching" --

There's a simple Excel geocoder that uses MapPoint in the Power Tools spreadsheet
This puts the lat/lon coordinates as well as matching codes in columns next to the address information in Excel.

This is part of the MapForums Downloads section ($99) which includes a number of other tools and downloads.

 We developed a MapPoint AddIn (http://wh-en.mappoint-tools.info/GA/scr/html/DatasetExport/Exportieren_nach_Excel.htm) and an Excel AddIn (http://wh-en.mappoint-tools.info/GA/scr/html/AddressValidation/IC-AdressValidation+Geocoding.htm).

You can download a free trial (http://profit100.eu/download/ic-business-tools.html).

Kind regards

Thanks for your responses

I've got back to looking at this and after some more research, still haven't found a solution. Currently, I'm importing them in manually from either excel or access using the wizard and then "skipping all" for the unmatched.

Then, I manually select the properties tab and sort it to select all those not matched by "Address." At that point I then put those into a database and query that against the original list and flag them as "unmatched." The main point is that MapPoint will "match" some to Zip Code or City, and I don't want to include those.

This is terribly burdensome since I have to do a lot of the steps by hand. I'd prefer not to use the excel add-in because I have a huge amount of records and ultimately need them in a MapPoint file. Also, I'm not sure if it would solve the issue of having to importing or process records twice.

It just seems like there has to be a better way than to have to import my data, and then reimport it again excluding some those that MapPoint "matches" using lax standards.
