Based on a request from a MapForums Downloads section member, here's a modified "Geocode Addresses" tool that has been in the http://www.mapforums.com/mappoint-power-tools-spreadsheet-8080.html forever.

The main request was that only "well" geocoded pushpins show up on the map. What defines "well" is actually now hard-coded in the attached tool, but it could be an option on the spreadsheet. Let me know if you need this and I can post a revised version.

If objFindResults.Item(1).Type = -1 And objFindResults.ResultsQuality < 3 Then 'ResultsQuality can be 0, 1, or 2

A few other changes:

The MapPoint map is not visible until all the geocoding is complete. This makes it a little faster, but if the program stops before it completes (hangs or bombs while it's working), it leaves a hidden MapPoint.exe instance/process in the background. You'd have to hit ctrl-alt-del to open the task manager and kill it to free up the RAM. Probably not a big issue until there were scores of these phantom, hidden instances of MapPoint, but just thought I'd mention it.

For kicks, I added a column where the user can specify the Pushpin symbol ID. I should also make it so you can put in the symbol name (text). This is optional, if left blank it will default to symbol 25, the red circle as it was before.

I guess that's it actually.

There are several other enhancements I could make for instance allowing you to set the balloon state (none, Name Only, Open). Right now it always shows Name Only.

Also, it would be nice to allow the users to add Pushpins based on lat/lon if you already know it. Then this wouldn't be so much of a Geocoding tool but more of a general purpose "Add Pushpins (also can do geocoding)" Tool.

Expose the Match Type and ResultsQuality "minimums" or acceptable values as mentioned above.

What else?

Please post your thoughts and requests on here.

Also, please let us know if you are using this tool and find it useful by posting below! and let us know how it could be more useful to you.

Thanks,
Eric
