Mappoint ActiveX performance

We are developing a website using Mappoint.net. As well as displaying maps we need to geo-code a large number of incoming lat/long co-ordinates.

To keep the .net accesses down, would it be viable to use the activeX control of Mappoint 2002 to do the coding (running on the same server).

The co-ords would come in at irregular intervals, meaning we could get 10 or 20 arrive at the same time. Would this grind the server/Mappoint to a standstill?

Hello,

The Active X control is designed to do those type of automated functions. My suggestion is to write a small vb.net Windows Service that listen on an MSMQ queue.

This will allow you to send messages to the queue and the vb program will process the requests.

The program will basically be a Service running in the background of a server/ workstation.

I have extensive experience doing this and can help further if needed.

the MP Control is a Memory hog though and can easily get up to 100Meg!

Thanks for the info, but we'll probably build the MapPoint part into a larger program that has to handle the incoming data via UDP and then populate a SQL server database with the decoded and geo-coded data.

One thing that would be of help is any pointers to sources of vb.net software using the MapPoint control. Most I've found is for VB6. I suppose that MP2004 will have more samples available...

Thanks Again

Nick
