View Full Version : Realtime traffic in MapPoint?

I need a solution that gives me real time traffic updates. I don't mind paying a monthly subscription, just something that can be integrated into MapPoint's turn by turn navigation.

I think this would be kind of difficult. You could add minutes to stops to account for slower traffic?

I don't think you are understanding the issue. I need MapPoint's navigation to take current live traffic into consideration when routing.

Well programmatically you could do something with stops along the route that incorporates live traffic information? This actually sounds like an interesting project, but I don't think it would be easy.

I like how Bing Maps and Google Maps incorporate live traffic info into routes, maybe you could use them for the routing and generate the display in MapPoint?
Or just switch to Bing Maps entirely for your solution?

Yes, exactly. Bing maps and Google maps have live traffic, this is exactly what I need. If I were to program my own way of taking that traffic info and showing it as stops in MapPoint, it would be a whole other project on it's own. I don't have the time or resources to handle such a large project. Not to mention it wouldn't be very accurate, since I would be the one making up the times for these "stops" based on the colour of the traffic indicators...
I've also thought about switchinv to Bing maps or Google maps for my solution, but neither of these have turn by turn navigation like MapPoint does. Or do they?

I have not done it, but it's probably worth exploring.

It would be cool if the MapPoint team and the Bing maps team actually got together to add something "live" like this to MapPoint environment.
I have heard almost zero about the next MapPoint version which makes me hopeful they have geared up something big, but maybe not.

Ya, MapPoint is really lacking compared to the rest of them. Unfortunately MapPoint is the only real desktop solution, as the others are web based. It can be so much better than what it is. The 2011 upgrade had nothing but road updates... So disappointing. How about a better API for programmers who can actually make something interesting out of this dull and dated application.

Perhaps in the next version! I have heard nothing :-)

So... MapPoint 2013 is out and still no live traffic...
I don't get it, they have this functionality in Bing maps, why can't they just use that data to give us better real-time routing in MapPoint?
I was so hopeful for this version, since they skipped last year, I thought for sure it would be packed with new features.
Another disaMapPointment...
