Did you find answer to this problem, I am experiencing the same error
no matter what shape file I try.
Thanks.

Did you try the example files included with the tool?

It could be that it's coming across a NULL value and not handling it properly.

It's been a while since I was debugging that spatial data importer, it might require some poking around on the shape file (also, try converting it to mif/mid) as well as some poking around in the code to figure it out.

Let us know what solves it for you...

Yes, I did try the sample files which work fine, I also opened the files in
Arcview, they work fine also. Is Arcview less tolerant of those "null" values than the MP importer?. Is the mif prefix for mapinfo? and what does the mid prefix for?
Thanks.

I think ArcView is more tolerant. That spatial data importer code is buggy and not robust. It is intended not as a commercial tool but only as some sample code so it breaks easily.

Mif/Mid is the standard MapInfo interchange format like ESRI's e00. The Mif holds "feature" or geographical information and the mid holds data associated with those features. As I remember ArcView has a mifshape, shapemif command line tool, err - what version of ArcView do you have?

I have two versions, Arcview 3.3 and 8.2. New: After some (alot) of time the other day I downloaded some shape files with Coordinates of WGS84 and they worked slick. I realized that the shapefiles I had been trying, Massachusetts, use NAD83, MA Mainland and metric settings. I know Arcview can change this, but only if the files include a .prj file (projection file). Of course MA has to be different and not bother with these files, at least not for the moment. I did a quick search for WGS84 shapefiles, imported to Mappoint and no problem. You can find some other programs that will change files from one to another, but, big bucks. I have found a program called DMapper and will experiment with that.

I am unable to get mappoint to import shp files even after downloading the files needed to do so. I keep getting error number -2147024809 Error in Render Shape, Parameter is incorrect.

I hear the only way to avoid this is to make the shp files mif files. Help please.
