Latitude Longitude data for individual addresses?

Hi,

Does anyone know if a file exists anywhere that lists Latitude and Longitude locations for individual addresses? I'm working on a bus routing program for some of the local school districts in New York and I have hundreds of addresses to plot at any given time. I'm finding that plotting by address alone is producing many incorrect results. If I have Latitude and Longitude data for these addresses I should get much more accurate results. I'm also wondering if there is any way to plot locations in MapPoint using tax map numbers? I already have this information, but I'm not sure if I can use it with MapPoint. I'd really appreciate any input anyone might have.

thanks.... Dan

Hi Dan,

For tax #'s I am not sure as it depends on the county, you might check with your county clerk or assessor to see if they have a GIS which has lat/lon's by tax #.

Regarding a list of address lat/lons, if you are finding MapPoint's geocoding capabilities inadequate, you might consider another more powerful geocoding package like MapMarker. There are many others.

Basically you would
1. For the addresses for which you do have good geocodes from MapPoint, extract the lat/lon's for those using the Pushpin Tool
http://www.mp2kmag.com/downloads/pushpin.tool/
2. Send the remaining through MapMarker or another geocoder (or multiple geocoders) and get the lat/lon's.
3. For the rest (or things that only geocode poorly such as at the zip code level), geocode them manually.

best,
Eric

Thanks Eric! I'll check into MapMarker and give your other suggestions a try also.
