View Full Version : New to MapPoint

Looking for any help understanding MapPoint and Excel.

My goal is be able to create a list of zip codes that fall within a 30 miles radius of a given zip code. And then use that list of zip codes to create a map that shows the service area. I have used the draw tool, and create a circle with a 30 mile radius. I have also used 3rd party websites to create a list of zip codes, and then tried that using those zip codes to create a map.
I'm also looking to create 2 different maps. The first map, would just be a shaded area of all of the areas that fall within that given area. The second map I want to create is a heat map using the same type of data but for several sets of data.

Example: My address is 91101, using MapPoint, I want to create a list of zip codes that fall within a radius of 30 miles. With that data, then use it to create a map showing the my service area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

S White 436,

Welcome to the forums! I hope we can help.

Have you tried the "Export to Excel" option when you right-click on the circle?

The heat map should be OK, but I think you should import your third-party zip code list as point and then group zip codes as the zip code boundaries built into MapPoint are kinda old and not the full zip code list.

Can you post some sample data as an attachment to your post? Then we could walk through specific steps to accomplish what you want for that data.

hope we're getting you pointed in the right direction!
