I will try to describe what I am trying to do.

I want to show a map on a web browser showing a custom route that I create using certain coordinates for a vehicle, ex: my neighborhood ice cream truck route. I want to show on the web the truck location on the route every 2 minutes with an image. I don't want to reload the map everytime i need to change the location. lets assume the ice cream truck driver has a cellular with gps and that is how i track him. I get the info from a website that returns the location.

I can do it easily with a windows app using the mappoint activex but I just can't seam to be able to do the same on the web since the object is not accessible from server.

Does any has any suggestions of what the best approach is? Web Service, Web Location Server or ActiveX (if possible) The page that shows all the vehicles that can be tracked(ice cream, mailman and so forth) is a php page currently.

This is a ficticous example but it will give you an idea of what I am trying to do.

thanks a lot! This a great board! I read a lot and learn a lot in the last day or so!

You have to use the webservice.

In theory, you could run the main MapPoint app, and grab an image every 2 mins, and copy it to your webserver. However, this is essentially against the EULA (I think the limit is 1000 maps - ie. not very long if you have a 2min update!).

Thanks Richard!

Can you show the vehicle moving without refreshing the map by calling a php file using http to get current coordinate? I am still waiting for my credentials to be able to log in to the web service to try the demos.

thanks

I would think so, although I haven't actually used the Webservice.
