FYI -- For the above countries-I'm presently constructing Spreadsheets to define roads, using small straight line segments. I will then import them using AddLine method.
(It's useful to me to have these segments defined as 'Items')
I note that Expedia has a rudimentary Road Map for, e.g. Iran.
I suppose I shld contact them also --
(I note the 'graticule' lat-long grid VB method in this forum, thanks!)

How detailed are the road segments you are using? One problem (among many) with trying to use MapPoint like this instead of a GIS like MapInfo or Manifold is that in areas for which MapPoint does not have details, you cannot zoom in.

BTW, do you have some screenshots? This would make a nice addition to the Gallery.

For Iran, eg, --
(a) using the NA Mappoint 2004 Iran map, I can zoom in OK (altho' there are just a few towns and no roads). I assume that when I have added my Lines (Road Segments), I will still be able to zoom in.
(b) I plan to construct around 600-1000 road segments for the whole country, plus all the Cities and Towns (entered as Text on the map) as shown in (eg) Expedia.. Best I can do, with time limitations.
(c) I found a digitizer called 'grabit' ($25?) that is amazingly effective - it puts the points where you click (lat/lon) straight into an Excel spreadsheet
(d) I will put the screenshots on the List as and when I complete the work for the various countries, in the unlikely event they might be useful to anyone .. the Maps and database tables will be in the Public Domain as far as I know (I will check)...
(e) The clever trick for stopping the user from moving PushPins (see below) was v. useful!
