Hi,

I am looking to move mails from Outlook Express to Outlook (Windows 7) but all emails are stored in .dbx file.

Actually, I am planning to upgrade my father’s Windows XP based computer i.e. 12 years old. The newly projected Dell desktop is running on Windows 7 along Office 2010.

Please suggest.

Hello Richard,

You can try manual method to import DBX file into MS Outlook. This procedure will be finished in two phases, mentioned below:

Phase 1: Convert Outlook Express data to windows live mail.

Step 1: Install and launch Windows Live Mail.
Step 2: Now Click on the start button on the Windows XP machine. Click on Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Folder Option
Step 3: Under Folder option click on the view tab and go to ‘hidden files and folders’. Here check the ‘show files, folders and drives’
Step 4: Now locate DBX files within the email client and copy Outlook Express files (DBX) at document folder where newly updated edition of Windows OS (Vista)

Phase 2: Transfer Windows live mail file to Outlook PST

Step 1: Open Microsoft Outlook at the same time launch Windows live mail on your system
Step 2: In the Windows live mail go to file tab and client on the Export and then select Email messages.
Step 3: Now Select file folder and here all the messages exported to the MS Outlook.
Step 4: Here select the desired folder from the select folder option and click OK to complete the process.
Step 5: In last, Wait for the completion of the process and click on Finish

Now, you can access all old emails of Outlook Express from gateway of MS Outlook. I hope, you will enjoy this email platform for long tenure.

Thanks

Hi Martin,

Thanks for providing detailed information to me.

I can trust on manual method but I have no prior experience of troubleshooting or migration.

Could you please let me know if there is any reliable software?

Hello Richard,

I agree with you. Non-technical users can face hurdle in completing the entire steps successfully. However, I haven't tried any freeware but some vendors are providing trial of DBX to PST converter.

According to me, testing the demo version of the software would be helpful to check the software's performance, before availing its full version. I found a demo version of Stellar DBX to PST converter which can be downloaded from here: http://www.stellarinfo.com/email-repair/dbx-pst-converter.php
