Is Mappoint the right software product for me???

I am looking for mapping software that does 2 fairly simple things. I know pretty much nothing about Mappoint and would like to figure out whether it is the product I need.

1. On the street level, I want to be able to display a detailed street map with various locations highlighted with some sort of symbol & lable (a dot with a number next to it). As a bonus, I could click on the symbol and have a pop up window display information pertaining to it. You could also be able to zoom in and out of the map. Generally, how detailed are the maps - do they show outlines of university campuses and parks for example. Are pretty much all streets included.

2. Pretty much the same thing except on the country level.

As a non-programmer, can I put together something like this myself, or am I hiring a developer.

Yes what you say can easy been done with mappoint but you have to hire a programmer for it to create specifically what you wants to do.

As for the detail, you dont specify a country, but I only know about Europe. Most countries in west europe are very detailed. Even parks boundaries, and little roads are in there. (With little road I mean a road that is very small and meant only for walking or bicycling). East eruope is also very good, but only in mappoint 2002. In 2004 it is very bad, almost no streets :(
