Override a route

I have a company that has route drivers and I am setting up their routes in MP 2004. I have loaded one route and there are a couple of places on the route that I would like my drivers to take different roads than what MP suggests. How do I change this?

Also, I have set up my preferrences to give them a break every 2 hours for 10 minutes, but this does not show up on the route sheets... any idea why?

I think the only option is to set waypoints. I also just see in another post that it is possible to do a route optimaiization. Never tryed it.
