Hi fellow boarders

I have a little project at work within our distribution department.

I would like to calculate the cost per pallet mile from our data

I have all the journies in the last year
The location they were shipped from
The locations they were shipped to
The volume of pallets shipped
The Cost of each delivery

Can MapPoint if I import the data into the wizard calculate the miles of each journey and then put data back into Excel

I would then have by journey miles, volumes and cost and could calculate the cost per pallet mile by journey or all journies.

Does anyone know if this is possible with Mappoints current functionality

Hi,

I think this is more 'custom programming'. Sure it is possible but not with the mappoint.exe I think. Maybe with some add in ? but again it requires custom programming...

With a little bit of dabbling with Excel, you could do this with my MileCharter product:

http://www.mapping-tools.com/milecharter/index.shtml

It will calculate route distances, times, and/or costs between a set of source locations and a set of destination locations.

If you have your pallet data, you could then combine this in Excel with the calculated cost per journey, to get your per-pallet costs.
(eg. a $100 journey with 20 pallets => $5/pallet)

Alternatively, some custom programming could get your final costs without any "fiddling with Excel". You could do it youself (you'll find the articles and forums on this site useful), or you could hire someone to do it.

I could be hired to produce a custom version of MileCharter as well - I've done it before.
