Don't know what else to try, please help!
MapPoint 2004 runs OK by itself on my Windowx XP SP2 computer. When I try to use the ActiveX control in VB6 I get the error when I run the program:

Error 16398:
Mappoint North America can't run because it is not registered on your
system, or it can't be found....

The error occurs on this line:

Sub Form_Load()
MappointControl1.NewMap geoMapNorthAmerica
End Sub

I've already tried the following:

1. Uninstalled & reinstalled w/ different discs
2. Run MP 2004 from windows xp and clicked AGREED to the license.
3. Installed as ADMINISTRATOR
4. Registered server MAPPOINT.EXE /regserver

Any ideas? Thanks!
Mike

Hi,

2 possibilities:
- something in IDE that is faulty set or still have to be set (eg pointing search path to the right path to find some DLL's or assemblies ?)
- something in your system. However if you already has installed on a second system I dont think so.

To exclude the latter, maybe someone can compile/link a small exe dat uses mappoint north america? In that case you can try the exe and if it is working then you can start digging in your IDE.

I cannot because I only have mappoint europe and I dont think my compiled exe will load north america.

YES, I've tried all of this, no matter what I do I get that error. I get
this error from VB6 or even Visual Basic 2005. I also clicked on the
Mappoint button that was added to Word 2003 and a message comes up saying:

"This object was created in MapPint. This application is not available to
open this object. Make sure the application is properly installed and that
is has not been deleted, moved, or renamed."

(I've downloaded MapPoint 2004 from MSDN)

PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks

Hi,

Can you download MP Europe ?
Because in that case I can make you a small program just to see if it is a runtime or compile time error.

Hi,

This may probably help you:

MapPoint: "Runtime Error: 16398" Error Message When You Start MapPoint (http://www.netomatix.com/Articles/KBArticle.aspx?a=299823)

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately, the "mappoint.exe /regserver" trick does not help.
Also, I am experiencing this problem with MapPoint 2004, as well as 2006.
