View Full Version : Adding custom symbols located on the internet

Hi folks,

Another question. I can add custom symbols to my application if they are local (ie C:\whatever), but my application is based in a web browser, using Javascript, and so I want to be able to add icons from our internet page and would like to be able to do something like:

Set objSymbol = objMap.Symbols.Add("http://www.taiver.com/taxi.bmp")

Does anyone know if this is possible at all? I havent had any success thus far.

Can you code something that would grab the bitmap off the internet and then place a temporary copy of it on a local drive to load into MapPoint?

Maybe, but I was hoping for an easier solution... I'm sure there's security issues that would make it tricky though.

Another question: will the Path property (that locates the installation folder of Mappoint) work when you use the MapControl, or just when you use the Application? The help file says that it is only a property of the Application (and for a map, but that is for a different function), but it would be helpful for me to use it with the MapControl.

No the Path property is containing a null string if called in the activeX.
