View Full Version : Need help with Custom Icon Add-In

I am working with about 75 custom pushpin icons that are dragging down the application. From what I read, I need to create an add-in that will load the icons into Mappoint. That is a little beyond my programming capability. Can someone here help me create the add-in?

Depends what you mean by "dragging down the application" :-)

John Meyer has a free symbol loading tool that will batch-load them - definitely a lot easier that loading them one at a time. It can be found here:

Support-PC Load Custom Symbols (http://support-pc.com/LoadCustomSymbols.htm)

I've heard reports that custom symbols are never as quick to render as the built in ones...

I have a Ms Access app using the Mappoint OCX control. I have a set of 75 custom Icons intended to show the direction, speed and status of moving vehicles. Within a half an hour the app slows down. My research here shows that Icons loaded from outside the application have a much higher overhead than icons stored in the application dll. It has been suggested here that a custom icon dll is created and then loaded with an add-on. The batch utility cited above loads the icons in a live version of Mappoint but they are lost when the app dies. I am looking for some help in creating a com add-on that will make the use of these icons more practicle.

I don't think you can - or not using any official method of using MapPoint.

If it slows with time, then could you be seeing a problem with MapPoint's garbage collector?
