Hi - I have a magellan SporTrak Pro that I want to use simply as an input device for MS MapPoint '06. The GPS is not seen by MP on com port 1 however all features work fine with Magellan's Topo software and I can both Up / Down load to it. In other words magellan software sees the magellan unit but MS MP won't. Tech guy (level 1 I'm sure) at Magellan sez it won't work but I don't like that answer - all I want is an input and it *should* be just a hardware / connectivity issue...Right? It just a serial device!?

Anybody know any tweaks for the SportTrak that'll allow me to use it? MS makes a version of the software that includes a GPS reciever but I didn't buy it coz I already have one that *should* be compatable (nmea 2). What would prevent it from being seen as a simple input device??

Thanx, all
Mike

Make sure the magellan software is not running (using the com port)

John, Thanx for the reply. There is nothing using the port. I have a feeling it JUST WON'T WORK with the SpotTrak Pro. I'm gonna try a USB -> Serial adapter (shot in the dark). I'm thinking of getting a Magellan Explorist XL - Bad Eyes..Big Screen.... Do you know if there is a HCL for MapPoint? MAgellan won't tell me nuthin - I was also looking at a Garmin 76 but don't know if it will work either. Thanx again for the reply...Mike
