Is there in fact an Academic Edition for MapPoint 2006? A client claims to have purchased it from ebay. Whatever her got, the early bindings in my VB6 app doesn't like it one bit. Just wondering if anyone has actually seen or used an Academic Edition.

There is an Academic license and pricing but it is no different from the regular full version..
Since your handle happens to be Fleet I will also mention that there is a "Fleet Edition" of MapPoint 2006 but again it is only a license and pricing difference, it is no different from the regular full version. Here's a couple of links on microsoft.com --

That is what I thought, as I had picked up VB6 as an academic version back in the day and it was full featured and I assumed mappoint would be the same. Oddly enough, my software would not work with it (it subsiquently worked when he bought a retail copy), so perhaps he bought a fraudulent copy marked as academic?
Anyway, my issue is solved, as he is now running full retail and it is working with my VB6 apps that reference MapPoint Control 13.0, so I am posting this just as an FYI.

Thanks for the follow up.. weird.
Maybe it was the way it was installed somehow (under a user instead of administrator rights)?
