Pushpin Error

Without notice or even an error message, my saved map will not allow me to place new pushpins, of anykind.

As normal, I click on the pushpin icon and float to where I want to place a new pushpin, then click to place it and it does not appear. I have tried re-opening the map, etc.

Any recommendations?

I've seen this happen a few times. Never found out why.

The solution was to open the affected map and then copy the pushpin datasets to a new map. After saving the new map, it seems to allow adding pushpins again.

That doesn't work for my map.

I match many of the pushpins by hand and when exporting, the process does not carry lat/long or any other characteristic that the new map can relate to. Plus, the process does not carry forward the type of pushpin used...numbered dot, square, etc., which all are different.

Nice thought, but it just is not pratical.

Ummm really?

I just opened a pushpin map of my own with 8788 pushpins of different symbols and varying custom field data. I right-clicked the dataset in the legend pane, then chose "copy". Then I created a new map (from the standard template) and chose Edit-Paste. All 8788 pushpins are on the new map, complete with proper symbol, and all information they had previously.

I'm using MapPoint 2006 North America.

Okay, that does work...I was exporting the pins before, not just simply copying and pasting. Thank you!!

UPDATE: though I can now easily copy/paste pushpin sets, I have to individually copy every manually created territory (done by freeform or other shape).

You could try deleting the pushpin sets, then saving the map to a new file containing only the territories. Then re-copy the pushpins to the saved territory map. Just a thought.
