Hi.
I have a Dell Latitude D-820, Dual Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 512 MB Graphics, XP SP 2. I've been trying to launch Mappoint 2004 Europe on my XP machine, but it hangs right at the splash screen. I have tried it on Vista as well, but got the same results. I think it's worth mentioning that Mappint 2004 Europe has been working fine on my single core machines so far.
Any suggestions/comments is very highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot,

The problem is NOT the dual core cpu - my dev PC is a Core 2 Duo and I've been running and developing with MapPoint 2002, 2004, and 2006 for six months on it, with no problems.

I've also tried it with Vista, but I might have limited my testing to MP 2006.

I suspect your problem is a library one of some sort? Have you tried uninstalling & re-installing? Also fully patching XP?

Richard

Hi Winwaed.
Thanks for your response.
I have been developing with Mappoint 2004 and 2006 North America for a long time with no problem, but it is 2004 Europe which doesn't work. My machine is fully patched. I have tried many different things, like setting CPU affinity, disabling one of the CPUs and others but no improvements. I think it has something to do with the machine itself, because it's doing exactly the same thing it does on XP, on Vista, fully patched as well.

Thanks again,

Check to see if your Dell has a pre-installed item called Embassy Trust Suite. There are problems with it (documented on Dell Forum .. if you Google "M65 path" you'll get some references. I have a Core Duo M65 .. kept getting application hangs and erroneous "path cannot be found" messages until I uninstalled Embassy Trust. M65 is different from your model, but it's Dell and problems sound similar.

Hi,

Yes, Embassy suite has to be uninstalled. It introduces lots of bugs in several applications.
