Tough road to the championship, coming in seeded 4th in the western conference these ladies had to get past the Gotham Girls from NY on Saturday who were the #1 seed from the East, then beat the Carolina Rollergirls in the semis; a team on the rise who also impressed in the first round. In the finals against Seattle, KC used a great blend of speed and solid D to hold off Ratcity in a match that was still up for grabs right down to the last jam. Although Xcelerator was named MVP, it was Annie Maul that was their key to victory. Derby is a lot like football in that offense gets the headlines, but defense wins championships and Annie held it together up front. incredible. my throat is still shot from screaming for Seattle :-( Coverage from the KC Star, Pitch, Lead jammer, and the Seattle PI
There's now over 40 teams in the Women's Flat track Association in the US and literally hundreds more popping up around the world.
