newbie q: more than one record at a single postcode

Hi

I'm mapping individual postcodes but where I have more than one record at a single postcode only one marker is being shown.

On the spreadsheet I'm importing, there is one row for each record, ie the same postcode can appear in several different rows. I have only one column of data (for my first effort!).

Is there of showing the number instances of each record at each postcode? I don't mind creating 'dummy' data if it helps.

Hi there

You might consider using some custom programming to do this. If you just want to use the package however then one solution might be to read your data in as frequencies by postcode eg KT17 6XY 5 meaning 5 occurrences in that postcode. You could then map the data using 'Multiple Symbol' and you'll see that in the symbol menu you can choose a brown circle with a number in it. Maximum would be 8 different frequency levels. Worth a shot.

thanks for your response - not sure about custom programming at this stage! - but I took your suggestion and made a pivot table from my data to obtain frequencies and that does the trick very nicely.
