Virtual Earth for Traveling the Great White North

<p>Following up on my last entry on <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/virtualearth/industry/government.aspx" target="_blank">Virtual Earth</a> put to use to allow travelers to monitor road and traffic conditions in Ohio, I have been alerted to another such application from the <a href="http://www.theweathernetwork.com/" target="_blank">Weather Network</a> to aide travelers up north. <p>The site gets data feeds continuously from multiple sources across Canada. Although traffic to their site is very large, they’ve managed to automate the whole process and have optimized everything so they only need a few servers to deliver the road conditions data (received directly from Canadian sources) with good performance. <p>The map layer icons are denoted very clearly at the top of the map. You can see that I have hovered over an icon that identifies a route with good driving conditions as the pop up information window demonstrates. At the map bottom, you can select different regions of Canada to focus the map on and you can a tabular list of conditions for specific highways that you can select from the very bottom drop down list. <p>
