| | Eric Frost 02-02-2008, 06:37 AM Almost 50 registered users logged into the forum recently, on the home page near the bottom you can see:
"The most members online over 24 hours was 47, 11 Hours Ago at 06:38 PM."
A total of about 7,300 unique visitors stopped by yesterday and 47 of them were registered or logged in... there are almost 3,000 registered members total.
Eric Marvin Hlavac 02-03-2008, 08:18 AM 7,300 unique visitors in one day, wow, that's very good, Eric! That's aproximatelly the number of unique visitors my new website, Laptop GPS World (http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/), had in the whole month of January 2008 (it's 4th month since launch).
How long ago did you start your forum, Eric? Eric Frost 02-03-2008, 08:51 AM Yes, that is really high actually.. I think it might have detected all the people who read or opened the "community bulletin" that was sent out on the 1st, not the actual number of unique visitors to the site.
Here's the brief history of the site, I posted over on your new forum a few months ago....
Laptop GPS World - View Single Post - Welcome to Laptop GPS World ! (http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/43-post3.html)
Your forum is growing at a MUCH faster trajectory than this one ever has, I wouldn't be surprised if you surpassed us soon :-)
Eric Marvin Hlavac 02-03-2008, 09:20 AM Eric, when you moved the forum from one domain to another, and from the old forum software to the current one, were you able to transfer all your existing content, or you had to start pretty much from the start? Eric Frost 02-03-2008, 09:25 AM We always migrated the content but it was never perfect. Links would break, information would be lost, etc.
Here are some of the first posts.
MapPoint Forums - Search Results (http://www.mapforums.com/search.php?searchid=68997)
Eric Marvin Hlavac 02-03-2008, 10:32 AM That's interesting. Well, at least some of the original postings were preserved, even though from 1999 till almost the end of 2001 every posting is by "Anonymous". Did everyone had to re-register, or you had to manually create a new registration for the early members? Eric Frost 02-03-2008, 10:46 AM There was no registration back then actually.. it wasn't really a forum.
Just some PHP scripts writing to a database table.
You can still see some of what it looked like:
MapPoint Help - MP2K Magazine (http://www.mp2kmag.com/mappointqa/)
I messed with it for a while trying to improve it before I decided it would be best to move to a real forum script :-)
I think when it was in phpBB it had carried over the names from the old QA script, but they weren't really associated with a user.. they were pseudo-anonymous posts with a name. When it was converted from phpBB to vBulletin I think even the name was lost and they are just really anonymous.

Eric Marvin Hlavac 02-03-2008, 11:07 AM Let's hope vBulletin will be sufficient for our needs for many years to come :). Eric Frost 02-03-2008, 11:21 AM vBulletin 3.7 looks pretty cool --
vBulletin 3.7 First Look! - vBulletin Community Forum (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249460)
I've heard people who've installed it haven't had any problems, but looking at the active work on the bug list makes me hesitate...
vBulletin Community Forum - Project Tools - Issue List (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?do=issuelist&projectid=6&issuetypeid=bug&appliesversionid=g13)
So I figured I'd wait. Do you want to try it and let me know how it goes? :p Marvin Hlavac 02-03-2008, 12:46 PM I was hoping you would try it first, and let me know !
Since I'm not too familiar with all this stuff, and any issues would take me long to diagnose and fix, I will definitely wait a while after they release a stable version, before I start considering my upgrade. Eric Frost 02-03-2008, 01:05 PM It looks like their development staff digressed to get out new versions of some of their add-ins... my guess is that they would release a RC version soon.. we'll see.
By the way, it looks like you still have the default smilies. I think mine are just the phpBB and vBulletin smilies merged together.
Maybe we can find some good map-themed vBulletin smilies or commission someone to do it for us and split the cost?
Eric Marvin Hlavac 02-03-2008, 02:00 PM Yes, if you find something (anything) appropriate for the topic of our forums, I will more than gladly split the cost with you. :-D http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/images/icons/globe.gif 8) Aqeel 06-26-2008, 11:20 PM when we submit a form and it is not submitted and when we refresh the page the whole information on the form is erased, anyone know the reason. | |
