Hello all, I am new to GIS in some ways; I took a GIS day course a long time ago...
In any case, I am having some basic problems with MapInfo Pro and thought perhaps someone could help me. Google searches have turned up nothing in two days, perhaps because my problems are so basic.
I have two data sets. One is a dxf file of cadastral data of a neighborhood in Paris with a Lambert projection, and the other is a dbf file of real estate transactions in the same neighborhood with Lambert II x,y coordinates. The dxf file has no problems being a map with polyline objects, but its table has no georeferenced data, just a field ID, where each unique number is an object on a map. The dbf file has street number, street type ("rue" "blvd" etc), and street name, as well as the x,y coords I mentioned.
My first question, oh so basic, is how do I geocode the dbf table? If I select a record, and try to pick an object on the dxf map, I cannot do it. I have turned "editing" on on each table, and made each table mappable. To work around this, I created a table from the dbf file of unique addresses (each record is a unique combo of number, street type and street name), but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get that table to see the original dbf, and then to map data on the dxf! I have a feeling I need to some sort of editing of the original dxf TABLE, but I don't even know where to begin.
Secondly, since the data is already in polygons and supposedly georeferenced in a Lambert dxf file, why can't I see that data in the dxf table browser? Do table NEED to have x,y coordinates in order to be mapped?
