Can I take information from Microft Project and include it as a point or an area on MapPoint?

Yes, though to make it easiest, I would recommend exporting it to Excel or Access first. It will need to be keyed to some existing level of geography like census tracts or states, or you can set up "territories" which are aggregations of existing data. Alternatively if you are working with point data, you will need a lat/lon or address.
